Step 1 -

Setup Your Metamask Wallet

Azuki can be stored in a Metamask Wallet. Metmask is a wallet with Android, iOS and several browser extensions available and supports over 5,000+ cryptocurrencies including Azuki NFTs. Metamask allows users to securely interact with marketplaces like OpenSea which we’ll be using to buy Azuki.

Metamask having both mobile and desktop versions is extremely convenient but can also be less secure due to the way recovery phrases and private keys are handled. Consider a Ledger hardware wallet if you’re serious about crypto. In our opinion it is essential that you only install a desktop wallet on a clean, secure machine that has little to no access to the Internet. Mobile wallets are often regarded by some as safer due to malware not being as prevalent on mobile operating systems.

Azuki can be kept in your Metamask wallet along with any other Ethereum NFTs you may hold. Once you’ve sent some ETH to your Metamask address, move onto the next step.

Buy Azuki on Opensea

Because OpenSea allows you to buy Azuki on-chain, it’s important to understand functions and costs involved with buying Azukis. First, connect your Metamask wallet to OpenSea by clicking on the wallet icon in the top right of the page. Follow the prompts to sign into OpenSea with your Metamask.

Once you’re signed in, head over to the Azuki page on OpenSea to browse the Azukis that are for sale. OpenSea will automatically filter to the “lowest floor price” which includes current offers and asking prices for Azukis. To buy a Azuki, click on the one you wish to buy and click “Buy now”, OpenSea will then walk you through a set of gas fees that must be paid before the Azuki is yours.

Once you’ve bought a Azuki it is automatically stored in your Metamask wallet and can then be relisted or sent to another Ethereum address at any time. NFTs are just like any other ERC20 token you may have sent in the past and can be viewed on Etherscan or accessed via other Ethereum supported wallets like Trust Wallet and Math Wallet.

Keep Your Azuki Safe

Certain NFTs can become wildly popular and therefore valuable overnight, so it’s important to store your Azuki securely. One of the best places to store NFTs is in an encrypted hardware wallet like those made by Ledger or Trezor. Hardware wallets use extremely secure encryption techniques to keep your NFTs and tokens safe and secure from sophisticated network attacks or even simple phishing scams that users keeping their funds in a software or website wallet may encounter. Hardware wallets even allow users to recover funds via a mnemonic seed phrase just in case the wallet is stolen, damaged or otherwise compromised.

Both Ledger and Trezor have entry level models available for around $50-$60 USD with the Ledger Nano S being the best all-round performers in terms of features for the price. Both hardware wallets are capable of storing Azuki, keeping it offline and secure.

Track The Azuki Floor Price

If you’re wanting to trade Azukis or get the best price at the right time, sites like NFTPriceFloor can help track sales data including the floor price of popular NFTs like Azuki. The floor price of an NFT is equal to the lowest price that one is listed for. Keep in mind that due to traits and rarity of individual Azukis, paying the “floor price” doesn’t always mean you’ll end up with a rare one.

In the following image we can see that the the floor price of Azukis can fluctuate over time just like any other cryptocurrency or stock. Volatility may increase due to the strict supply of some NFTs where, for example, only 10,000 are created.

Unlike regular cryptocurrencies, NFTs can be hard to value due to them often not having any business model or token utility. Traders and Investors in NFTs often equate them to pieces of art where the price can rely heavily on the artist, community and hype at the time.

Track Your Azuki Rarity & Ranking

When you’re looking to buy a Azuki from OpenSea or any other NFT marketplace, it can pay to research the rarity of the traits of the Azuki you’re buying as this can have a huge impact on the price someone will pay for it once those traits are rare on the open market. Sites like rarity.tools exist to help buyers and sellers value their NFT based on rarity and rank.

In the following image we can see Azukis ranked on a range off traits such as Background, Accessories, Hats, etc. Just like card collecting, certain NFTs will have special traits that make them more valuable than others which can result in a faster appreciating price or special abilities in games that provide utility to them.

Before you pay “floor price” for an Azuki because it’s the cheapest available on the open market, consider using ranking tools to find a value of what you’re buying.
